Foundry Steamboat Men’s Residential Addiction Treatment Program in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

What is Residential Treatment for Addiction?

Residential treatment, sometimes called inpatient treatment, is a structured, immersive form of addiction care in which clients live on-site at a treatment facility for the duration of their program. Unlike outpatient programs that allow men to return home each evening, residential treatment removes clients from the environments, relationships, and routines that can fuel substance use, creating the space and safety needed for real healing to begin.

At Foundry Steamboat, residential treatment means access to round-the-clock clinical support, medical care, individual and group therapy, trauma-informed programming, and a community of peers who understand the journey. For many men, this level of focused, uninterrupted care is what makes lasting recovery possible.

Benefits of Residential Treatment for Addiction

Residential treatment offers advantages that other levels of care simply cannot replicate. For men dealing with moderate to severe substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, or a history of trauma, an immersive treatment environment can be the difference between struggling and truly recovering.

  • A foundation for long-term recovery. The skills, insights, and relationships built during residential treatment form the bedrock of a sustainable life in recovery, one that continues long after a client leaves our doors.
  • A safe, distraction-free environment. Stepping away from daily stressors, triggers, and unhealthy relationships gives men the mental and emotional space to focus entirely on their recovery.
  • 24/7 clinical and medical support. Around-the-clock access to nurses, clinicians, and physicians means that medical needs, emotional crises, and withdrawal symptoms are addressed immediately and safely.
  • Structured daily programming. A consistent daily schedule built around therapy, wellness, meals, and reflection helps men rebuild healthy routines and a sense of stability that many have lost.
  • Deep therapeutic work. With more time in treatment comes more opportunity to go beneath the surface. Residential care allows men to engage meaningfully with trauma therapy, family programming, and evidence-based clinical modalities.
  • Peer connection and community. Living alongside other men in recovery fosters camaraderie, accountability, and the understanding that no one has to face addiction alone.
  • Integrated dual-diagnosis care. For men experiencing both addiction and mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD, residential treatment allows these issues to be addressed simultaneously and comprehensively.

An Introduction to the Foundry Steamboat Men’s Residential Addiction Treatment Program

Gender-specific care makes addiction treatment more effective by tailoring programming around the needs of men and creating a comfortable environment where they feel open and engaged.

Deeply ingrained stigmas about addiction and stereotypes about manhood can be sources of profound stress and cause men to suffer in silence. Much of our work focuses on addressing and dispelling these myths, helping men live happier, more authentic lives.

We also address the common and debilitating problem of trauma and neglect, which men can experience at any point in their lives. Our highly experienced clinicians, technicians, nurses, doctors, and case managers are specially trained to maintain an emotionally and physically safe environment where clients feel supported and encouraged to do the hard work of treatment.

Our staff are some of Colorado’s most skilled addiction treatment specialists, and they care deeply about our clients and their recovery.

Residential Treatment vs. Outpatient Treatment

Not every path to recovery looks the same, and the right level of care depends on the severity of a man’s condition, his home environment, and his personal history with treatment. The chart below outlines the key differences between residential and outpatient treatment to help you or your loved one make an informed decision.

For many men, residential treatment is the recommended starting point, particularly when substance use has become severe, when mental health symptoms are present, or when previous outpatient attempts have not led to lasting recovery. Our admissions team is available to help you understand which level of care is right for your situation.

Our Dual-Diagnosis Men's Treatment Program

Our dual-diagnosis treatment program for men and their family members offers the comprehensive programming components needed to address the psychological, physical, and spiritual aspects of addiction, co-occurring mental health disorders, and trauma.

Residential Men’s Dual-Diagnosis Treatment

Our men’s residential dual-diagnosis treatment combines psychiatry, nursing, individual and group psychotherapy, and psychoeducation to help men understand and manage their conditions. We use evidence-based therapies and highly trained team members.

Trauma Treatment

Trauma is a common underlying condition affecting men with substance use and mental health disorders. Because untreated trauma causes severe ongoing anxiety, depression, grief, and shame, it must be resolved before men can feel free from the stimuli that lead them to use substances to feel normal.

Family Programming

At Foudnry Steamboat, we provide a unique form of family programming that educates and counsels clients and family members about how to support recovery and maintain a safe and supportive home environment. Our Michael Barnes Family Institute program is available to clients or family members.

Nutritional Counseling

We help men understand the role of a healthy diet in supporting recovery. In addition to wholesome and delicious chef-prepared meals, clients can participate in our horticulture program to grow and harvest fresh produce that we use in our dishes.

Wellness Activities & Recreation

At Foundry Steamboat, we help men learn how to use movement, sitness training, individual and group recreation, and mindfulness. Learn to redevelop strong relationships is also an essential part of our care.

Continuing Care Planning

We strive to develop comprehensive and practical continuing care plans allowing men to access affordable, high-quality doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, support groups, and other recovery resources close to home.

Testimonials

They saved my life. Now 90 days sober/clean. By far the best clinical and therapeutic care I’ve ever experienced in my life. I had been to drug/alcohol treatment before and this is not the same. The staff and physicians actually care about what happens to you and will fight your insurance for more time. Please understand that not everyone will get 90 days but if you are prepared to pay for it out of pocket please do!!! They will work with you and find a payment plan that works. — C.B.

The Foundry’s beautiful setting is matched by their progressive approach in addressing the complex problem of addiction in a complete holistic program that is flexible and adaptable for anyone and everyone. With resources for those in recovery and also their families The Foundry is an amazing place to start a lifelong healing journey. — X.B.

My perspective is that of a parent whose son was at The Foundry for a short time. His serious mental illness did not allow him to stay, however I can say that the Foundry tried everything they could and eventually did right by all of us and our family. I sincerely wish them well, and they will do well because they have they have the residents’ best interest at heart – which is recovery, from addiction and/or mental illness. — C.C.

Such a truly lovely center. They helped my best friend so much. The staff was so obviously caring and I dont know where he’d be without them — K.L.

Importantly, we know that for many men, addiction is about more than one substance. Many people suffering from addiction have so-called polysubstance use disorders. We aim to help people establish a foothold in recovery so that they no longer feel the need to use any substance to feel normal. Identifying the primary substances people use makes detoxification safer and helps to identify any specialized treatment needs.

What Comes After Residential Treatment for Addiction?

Completing a residential treatment program is a profound and important milestone, but it is also a beginning, not an ending. Recovery is a lifelong process, and the work done at Foundry Steamboat is designed to carry forward into the life that follows.

Before discharge, every client works with our clinical team to develop a comprehensive continuing care plan tailored to their needs, goals, and home community. This plan may include a step-down to a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), connection to local therapists and psychiatrists, participation in peer support groups such as AA or SMART Recovery, and ongoing family support.

We also help men identify sober living arrangements if returning home is not yet the right fit. The transition out of residential care can feel vulnerable, but it does not have to feel alone.

Our team remains a resource for alumni and families long after treatment ends, because we know that recovery built on strong foundations and continued support is recovery that lasts.
