What is Virtual IOP?
An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a level of care providing at least 9 hours of treatment per week in a less structured environment than a residential or inpatient program.
IOP may be appropriate for patients who require a significant amount of structured addiction treatment but do not require an inpatient environment and supervision.
Virtual IOP can be a patient’s primary form of treatment or a common next step for patients who have completed residential or inpatient programs. Virtual IOP delivers the same services as an IOP, using the Internet (telehealth) instead of in-person visits to a treatment facility.
The ability to receive comprehensive treatment from the comfort of home, without commuting to a physical location, is the primary advantage of Virtual IOP. Virtual IOP makes treatment more accessible for many people.
Who is Virtual IOP for?
Virtual IOP is for clinically-evaluated adults who need an IOP level of care, do not require in-person supervision, and who require the ability to get treatment without having to travel to a treatment facility. Virtual IOP is an important treatment resource for people who live far from a treatment provider and cannot regularly commute to an office. It is also well-suited to individuals who need to balance life and work responsibilities with a rigorous treatment schedule. The ability to participate in an IOP using a computer or mobile device significantly reduces the time and expense of travelling to and from a treatment facility several days per week.
Virtual IOP makes high-quality care available to Colorado residents who live many miles from an appropriate treatment facility. How Our Colorado and Wyoming Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program Works
Our Virtual IOP is available to clinically appropriate adults 18+ who reside in Colorado or Wyoming. A Foundry Steamboat IOP clinician performs an in-depth assessment to determine if clients are well-suited for our virtual IOP program. Some people may require detoxification or residential treatment before being able to benefit from virtual IOP.
Clients log on to their scheduled therapy sessions securely using a telehealth application on a computer or mobile device. This telehealth connection is secure and protects patient privacy.
Schedule
The Foundry Steamboat Virtual IOP is a clinically intensive program. We respect the opportunity to help patients achieve recovery, and we believe that this step requires significant work and focus.
- Three, three-hour structured group sessions per week (6:00-9:00 PM)
- Individual counseling sessions with an LPC/LCSW
- Individual recovery coaching sessions with a certified addiction specialist
- Clients typically receive individual sessions with a counselor or recovery coach once a week
Our Clinical Approach
We practice a unique treatment model called Trauma-Integrated Care, which was developed by our Chief Clinical Advisor, Dr. Michael Barnes, PhD. The primary emphasis of Trauma-Integrated Care is maintaining a completely safe treatment environment and identifying and resolving trauma as an essential component of comprehensive addiction treatment. Our clinicians are skilled in numerous therapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, gestalt approaches, somatic therapies, and numerous trauma-informed therapies. Our program also focuses heavily on the family system. We provide a multi-level family program that helps clients and their family members understand how to support recovery, get their own treatment if needed, and create recovery-supportive lifestyles.
We create a strong therapeutic alliance with each client and deliver personalized care. Our group therapy session curriculum is tailored to the group’s needs. Our individual therapy is personalized to address each client’s experiences and needs.

In addition to the individual, group, and experiential therapies provided during Virtual IOP, clients are also supported through ongoing care planning and our thriving alumni program.
We provide individualized ongoing care planning to each client to help them maintain their recovery journey using available high-quality resources.
